North Liberty has grown so fast that a map from ten years ago is out of date. Subdivisions keep going up around Penn Street, townhomes have filled in along North Kansas Avenue, and Liberty Centre draws people from all over the county. A-1 Sewer Service clears drains, installs water heaters and handles plumbing for North Liberty homes, old and new. Our shop is off Bay Ridge Ave on the south side of Iowa City, about 20 minutes from North Liberty. Call (319) 600-4224 or send a note through the contact page.

When people picture drain cleaning, they picture an old house with a big tree in the yard. In North Liberty, a good share of our calls are on houses that were built in the last few years. It surprises people, but the reason is simple. New construction leaves drywall dust, scraps and the occasional sandwich wrapper in the lines. A main drain that was never flushed out can clog the first or second time something heavy goes through it.
Builders also choose fixtures for price. A kitchen faucet that drips, a toilet that runs, a tub that never quite drains: these show up in houses that aren't old enough to have a mortgage balance worth worrying about. Small problems are easy to ignore. We'd rather you didn't, because a partly blocked line gets worse, and the repair gets more expensive.
If your house is still under a builder warranty, tell us when you call. Sometimes a clog turns out to be an installation problem, and the builder should hear about it while the warranty is active. We'll tell you what we find and what it looks like to us. Whether to take it up with the builder is your call.

Many of the newer neighborhoods sit on smaller lots with less space between houses. That changes how water behaves. When a downspout dumps close to the foundation and the yard slopes toward the house, the water has nowhere else to go. Finished basements are the most exposed, since carpet and drywall soak up whatever comes in.
We install sump pumps and run discharge lines out to the street or yard, and we extend or bury downspouts so water leaves the property without ending up in a neighbor's yard. We also check that the discharge line won't freeze solid in January, which is a common mistake. If you're about to finish a basement, get the sump system checked before the framing goes up. It's far cheaper to fix beforehand.

Many households here have kids, and a fifty-gallon tank doesn't go far when three people shower back to back. Tankless water heaters are a common request in North Liberty. They heat water as you use it, so a long shower doesn't leave the dishwasher with cold water, and the unit takes up less room on the wall.
We install tankless and standard heaters. Before we quote a tankless job, we check the gas line size and the venting, since those are the two things that decide whether the install is simple or involved. If you're building or buying, it's easier to plan for a tankless unit before the walls close. The water heater installation page lays out how the process works.
After a few years in a new house, a lot of people want to replace the faucets that came with it, swap a toilet, or add a utility sink in the basement. We do that work too. The plumber page lists everything.

We cover the whole city: the older streets near downtown, the area around Centennial Park, the newer neighborhoods on the north and west sides, and homes along Highway 965 and the I-380 corridor. If your address is on a boundary, we also serve Coralville, Iowa City and Tiffin. The drain cleaning page explains what happens on a typical drain call, and the projects page shows finished work.

“First time using A1 and I can’t say enough positive. Andy came within the hour that I called to unclog a basement floor drain. He was very thorough and checked to make sure the blockage was not coming from more than one area. He cleaned it out in a short time, got things moving and had good suggestions to help minimize future problems. Reasonable charges for good work and an honest pleasant person. Highly recommended.”
“Fantastic service! Called, told him the bottom of my water heater is leaking, sent him pics of everything and he was out the next day replacing it at a reasonable price! Highly recommend 👌 Thank you!”
“10 Stars if I could. Coming from someone who builds systems and processes for a 9 figure company, Andy does it all right and keeps it simple. Easy to find in search, stands out in reviews, easy to see why. Answered the phone 8am first try, flexible to when I needed, arrived within hours of first contact. Followups easy in text. Got pertinent info, walked the house, got to work, fixed it and another issue after quick run to store for parts. More than reasonable price. In my phone for next time if I ever need it! Thanks Andy!”
Construction debris in the line is the usual reason, followed by builder-grade fittings that were put in quickly. Both are common in fast-growing towns.
For many families, yes. You get hot water as long as you need it, and the unit is small. It depends on your gas supply and venting, so we'll look before we quote it. If a tank makes more sense for your house, we'll say so.
